You will need to secure a permit before obtaining your dumpster rental if you plan to place it on public property such as a street or in the public right-of-way. But if the unit will be on private property such as your driveway, you will not need a license more often than not. The typical case where you would need a permit for private property use is if you live in an area with a homeowner’s association (HOA). Then, you must get permission from the organization before placing your dumpster.
If your dumpster rental(s) take up 100 feet or less, then the fee will be $10 per day. As the amount of area taken up by the rental unit increases, the fee increases as well. There is also a fixed fee of $20.
You will need to provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance and have the name and contact information of the dumpster provider must legibly be on the container. Additionally, you must have vertical strips of reflective tape on each corner of the container or four vertical panel barricades equipped with flashing lights.
