Setting a dumpster rental on your own private property typically does not require a permit. However, you may need a license if you are looking to position a unit on a street or another public right-of-way. You may need to check with your local Homeowners Association to see how long you are allowed to keep a dumpster on your property.
You must obtain the permit from the Phoenix Public Works Department. They are in charge of directing all trash, recycling, and other waste disposal efforts. You can call them at (602) 262-6251 or send an email to cityservicesbill@phoenix.gov.
According to the Phoenix City Code, any solid waste container that holds over 32 gallons is required to have the phone number and name of the responsible party displayed on the unit, legible from at least ten feet away. The dumpster must be positioned in a way that removes it from the public eye as much as possible. You must also keep the 25-foot radius around the rental clean and clear.
